Walker guides Connecticut past Kentucky Maui title

LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) - the Connecticut Huskies leave Hawaii with a large trophy and great expectations.

King Chamba taken into the pipeline.

Finishing off the coast of dominant tournament, Chamba Walker scored 29 points and Connecticut was beaten for the second consecutive day, a team of top 10 knock off no. 8 Kentucky with an 84-67 defeat to win the Maui tournament on Wednesday evening.

"We wanted to show the world that we are still Connecticut," said Walker.

There was little doubt after this reversal.

Connecticut (5-0) was his first title in Maui on Gonzaga in 2005. Huskies beat simply Kentucky for their second.

After wearing second Michigan State in the semi-finals, crushed Connecticut Wildcats in the game title, dominant during the execution of a first half mass and crash any hope of a return.

Alex Oriakhi has 18 points and 11 rebounds and Huskies shot 57 percent against one of the best teams in the nation to leave Hawaii with an image much more clearly who they are.

What is Connecticut come a disappointing season 2009-2010, is clearly back.

"This is a big step for us," said UConn coach Jim Calhoun."It is letting people know we're Connecticut, Connecticut since the past 20 - something years and we believe that we are a good basketball team."

Make the Wildcats.

Kentucky (4-1), in spite of all these young stars on hold, have a response when UConn began to sink big during his first semestre.Au rather than make a return in the second half, the Wildcats fell father behind their inexperience overcome their talent for once.

First phenom Terrence Jones is lowered to a great start, a good piece of the first half on the bench with two mistakes and finished with 24 points.Darius Miller spent added 15 points.

The rest starters? they went 6-for-26 combined team fired by 36%.

"That was one of," said the coach John Calipari Kentucky. "We dominated coached out, out everythinged.

Walker was the difference from the outset.

The tournament that MVP almost played with young Wildcats, flipping runners, 3-pointers and layups for 90 points in three games, three of registration set by George Gilmore of Chaminade in 1991.

And when the Wildcats tried roar back for the second half start, Walker has given them a hush! notation on a freestyle left hander in the pathway, smile to the crowd, he ran back after a 3-pointer.

"I me with great pleasure", said the Walker.

It was almost all others at the invitation of Maui.

After executing a so-so 2009 tournament of the prestigious Island found his mojo this year with big teams and the well-played games that had fans enjoy inside Centre Civic not as much as these majestic views of crystal blue waters and majestic neighbors the Islands outside.

Except for a few games of losing support, gymnasium school size was filled to the rafters of rowdy fans who felt as a tournament in March, do step pre-Thanksgiving.

The game title had some extra juice for her, the mass of blue Kentucky stronger as ever, the contingent small-but-proud Connecticut tried to hear by Tine, howling whistled.

"That tiny little gym was noisy as Madison Square Garden or any other place", said Calhoun.

The players were too on their game

Jones has delivered the first big hit, lead during a slam to two defenders UConn.Oriakhi replied to a few seconds later, rising to an alley-oop with both hands.

UConn kept he spends the rest of the first moitiƩ.Les Wildcats failed.

Jones, after scoring 10 points, Kentucky had spend 9: 01 final half on the bench with two mistakes, Calipari fear to rear en.Trois other players had two mistakes and had limited playing time.

Apparently anyone who was on the floor.

Persistently challenging size of Connecticut inside, Kentucky too played 1-on-1 instead of kicking shooters and kept coming away empty, only nine 30 lashes in the first half of hitting.

And it was the correct part.

Connecticut, led by the still cool Walker could not seem to Miss against the defence of slow-to-get-back from Kentucky.

Reaching 3s, scoring in transition, powerup inside - Huskies seemed to do what they wanted whenever they wanted to go to 21-2 run to close the first half against a so-called-best team.

"They are left with a viscousness and tenacity, that we couldn't match at the beginning of the game," said Calipari.

Walker, who called the pit bull Calipari was the catalyst.

The junior had 10 of his 17 points in the run, he recovery by giving generously to 3-pointer to a stacking of spaces by Jamal Coombs - McDaniel .the rest with huskies do bad, either, combining hit shots in 30-50-29 18.

Kentucky has attempted to run a race in the second half and Walker does laisser.Il has declined besides a couple 3-pointers and kept hard driving to the hoop, send a good piece of big blue fans for outings with a little over 3 minutes left, then take the ball within seconds of closure that fans of Connecticut chanted MVP!

"I understand that we are not the blue blood of Kentucky, and I have great respect for, Indiana and programs, traditional, but also for the last 20 - something years we have a party," Calhoun said. "" ""And we want to continue to be part of this.»

It was an important step.
